Internet Explorer Shortcuts

Internet Explorer was/is/will be my favorite browser for browsing the net. Many people might find IE lacking in features or not comparable to their favorite browsers but I believe IE is one of the top Microsoft product. It might lack some features but it works out for me, so no problem. And with the all new IE7, comes the new features like tabbed browsing, improved UI to name some [many not new to the small percentage of people using other browsers :-)] As I'm an IE user and mostly a keyboard guy, I thought of compiling the keyboard shortcuts in IE which can make moving around IE pretty slick, so here comes my favorites...

[Note: Some of them are only IE7 related]

  • Go Back (previous) page: Backspace, ALT+Left Arrow

  • Go Forward (next) page: SHIFT+Backspace, ALT+Right Arrow

  • Stop: Escape (ESC) [stops the page from loading and also stops the background music of the page if any]

  • Refresh: F5, to refresh completely CTRL+F5

  • Shift focus to the address bar: ALT+D

  • Auto wrap with "http://www" and ".com": CTRL+Enter in the address bar

  • Toggle full screen: F11

  • Move between tabs: CTRL+TAB (forward), CTRL+SHIFT+TAB (backward)

  • Scroll: UP/DOWN arrow keys

  • Page Scroll: SPACE (downwards), SHIFT+SPACE (upwards) <-- especially useful when readig a long article

  • Move to the top: HOME

  • Move to the bottom: END

  • Shift focus to Search field: CTRL+E

  • Open Search Query in new tab: ALT+Enter

  • Dropdown Search provider list: CTRL+Down Arrow

  • Dropdown Address bar list: F4

  • Open New Tab in the foreground: CTRL+T

  • Open New Tab from the address bar: ALT+Enter

  • Switch to n'th tab: CTRL+n (n > 0 && n <= 8)

  • Switch to last tab: CTRL+9

  • Quick tabs: CTRL+Q [ESC to go back to previous tab, Use Arrow keys to navigate and Enter to bring the tab to view]

  • Move focus to the information bar: ALT+N (when information bar is visible)

  • Click on the information bar: SPACE (when information bar is visible)

  • Close the information bar: ESC (when information bar is visible and focused)

If you've any other useful easier shortcut, please do post it in the comments.

later...
